AASAA Golaghat Unit Meets MLA Mrinal Saikia to Address Key Adivasi Concerns 🌿

The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), Golaghat District Unit, recently held a significant meeting with Shri Mrinal Saikia, Hon’ble MLA of Khumtai constituency. The interaction brought to the forefront some of the most pressing issues faced by the Adivasi community, especially those residing in tea gardens and on government land.

Key Concerns Raised

During the discussion, AASAA representatives emphasized the long-pending demand for land pattas (land ownership documents) for families living in tea gardens and other government-allocated areas. Generations of tea garden workers have lived and contributed to the land, yet they continue to struggle without proper ownership rights. This lack of security often leads to instability, marginalization, and a sense of exclusion from mainstream development.

Another major issue highlighted was the current condition of Rajabari Tea Estate, where workers and residents face various challenges affecting their livelihoods and overall well-being. AASAA stressed the need for immediate intervention and sustainable solutions to ensure that the rights of the tea garden community are protected.

A Step Toward Justice and Dignity

The meeting with MLA Mrinal Saikia is being seen as a positive step forward. By engaging directly with elected representatives, AASAA continues to uphold its commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and development of Adivasi people in Assam. The dialogue reflects the growing determination of the community to secure justice and ensure rightful ownership of land—a demand that has been at the heart of Adivasi struggles for decades.

The Role of AASAA

Over the years, AASAA has played a crucial role in amplifying the voice of the Adivasi community. From fighting for education and employment opportunities to addressing issues of land, culture, and identity, the organization remains at the forefront of grassroots activism. The Golaghat Unit’s proactive engagement with the MLA demonstrates the association’s dedication to community welfare and empowerment.

Looking Ahead

While the meeting does not immediately resolve the challenges faced by the people, it marks an important milestone in the dialogue between the community and policymakers. The hope is that these discussions will translate into concrete actions—ensuring that tea garden workers and their families can finally achieve the security, justice, and recognition they deserve.

As AASAA continues its journey, the message is clear: the fight for Adivasi rights is not just about survival—it is about dignity, justice, and a better future for generations to come. ✊🏽
